Hello George,

I think it was a great and very generous idea to donate your house to a worthy recipient. The fact that a governmental agency stepped in and prohibited you from doing so is a shame. I'm sure that a property tansfer in which all taxes and fees were paid to all the powers that be could have been arranged and would have been a much better result thatn it sitting stagnant on the market or even being abandoned or defaulted on and becoming part of the very housing foreclosure mess/crisis that we are all trying to avoid!

We have many properties available for purchase the very well qualified buyers and investors are trying to purchase and are unable to for no other reason than banking and governmental red tape.

Until we convince the banks and governmental and quai-governmental agencies that the only way out of this depression that we are facing is to find ways to say YES to DOING BUSINESS!

I applaud your efforts and hope that we can convince Washington, the States, and Banks that saying YES to business is a great way to revitalize our economy!

Sincerely,

Chad.

George, do you have anything posted about what the DOJ finally said is what makes your contest "non compliant"? I've read through your info and it sounds like you were doing everything right.

Did you get a specific reason from them about what was "non compliant", or just vague government babble?

The more I read, the more sad I am for you that you could not continue the contest - it looks like you thought of everything to keep it legal, honest and fair.

I'm sorry this didn't end successfully for you. After reading through your blog, I am sure you are a person of integrity. It's just too bad that the DOJ decided your contest did not "comply", whatever that means ...

Good luck in your other work.

I'm sorry your contest was shut down. It sure looks like you did your best to be open, honest and reasonable. I still don't understand why the Oregon DOJ decided your contest was not compliant, that just doesn't make sense. It looks like everyone would benefit from a successful conclusion to your contest, it's a shame DOJ interfered.

My friend has started a similar "contest of skill" in Hawaii to "give away" her home; I'm reading through your blog to see how we can learn from your experience. You can see her effort at www.winhawaiianhome.com if you like.

Best of luck to you.

Is there a chance thet if the house is not given away you would consider rent to own. I just heard about this as my family and i avoid watching news and reading the paper. I know in these times that sonds crazy but with all the horrible things going on I find it hard not to get depressed. My husband works hard and we have dreamed of finding a home we coud buy that the payments would be affordable I am asking this because the house is close to where we currently live and would be a great thing. I looked over some of the things people have written and there seem to be many deserving people out there. in truth some sound far more deserving than my family. I would like to enter but would feel better about trying to fulfill our dream of owning this home after the others that got in before. I am not saying a Basicaly free house would be bad(it would be great) but I think we are coming in a little late.

George,

Just a thought -

As a final step, it would be good to publish evidence of your donating the monies to charity. Either a couple of jpgs of the documents etc. Not that I personally don't trust you, but all the defrauding going on in the internet, if you can take the extra step to show not tell, I think it's really to everyone's benefit.
Remember, the internet is a bit like a library, stuff hangs around for posterity, and readers skimming in the future form impressions.
This suggestion is made as a contribution to enhancing the realm of internet communication.

I'm so sorry the Dept of Justice shut this idea down!
What a great idea, since raffles are not legal, either.
I tried to do the same idea to market my beach house, (kinorental.com)but, found that it was not that easy.
Thank you for the few moments of excitement.

Where do I click to read all the stories?

I don't even have the $19.95 either... been looking for work since moving to Va two months ago. Any idea how the job market is in Eugene? Nice to move to the house, but we still need income.

Thanks for the previous reply, George.
